Jason Mieras: $250K Complaint Against American Portfolios Advisor

Lake Como, New Jersey financial advisor Jason Mieras (CRD# 2850648) recently received an investor complaint alleging his advice resulted in six-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and an investment advisor with American Portfolios Financial Services.

Mr. Mieras’ BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. The most recent, filed in July 2023, alleges that as a representative of American Portfolios Financial Services, he recommended an equity investment that resulted in loss. The pending complaint alleges damages of $250,000.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2015, alleges that premium payments for an insurance policy’s enhanced death benefit were not made, resulting in the policy’s lapse. In 2017 the complaint reached a settlement of $600,000.

In a statement included with the 2015 complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Mieras wrote that the insurance company “was responsible for direct contact with the policy holder regarding premium notices and collection of payments and in fact was receiving payments automatically from policy holders business bank account as arranged by policy holder.” The complaint states further that the policyholder received a notification regarding the “cessation of payments” with enough time to allow for the policy’s reinstatement, and that he was assigned to the policy “as agent of record after [the] original agent retired.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Jason Mieras holds 26 years of securities industry experience. Based in Lake Como, New Jersey, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with American Portfolios Financial Services since 2001 and 2002, respectively. His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; the Municipal Fund Securities Principal Examination, or Series 51; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He holds 55 state licenses. (Information current as of September 3, 2023.)
