Kevin Regan: $305K Complaint Against Northwestern Mutual Advisor

A recent investor complaint against Fort Lauderdale financial advisor Kevin Regan (CRD# 4726798) alleges that he failed to follow instructions and made unsuitable investments. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and an investment advisor with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services.

Mr. Regan’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in October 2023, it alleges that as a representative of Northwestern Mutual, he failed to invest a trust’s funds in accordance with the trust provisions, “and failed to advise customers of same.” The complaint alleges additionally that he invested the customers’ personal assets in a manner that was not suitable for their risk tolerance and circumstances. The pending complaint alleges damages of $305,000.

An unsuitable investment, as FINRA Rule 2111 outlines, is one which the broker does not have a reasonable basis to believe is appropriate for the customer’s investment profile. A customer’s profile “includes, but is not limited to, the customer’s age, other investments, financial situation and needs, tax status, investment objectives, investment experience, investment time horizon, liquidity needs, risk tolerance,” and other factors. Brokers who fail to recommend suitable investments may be held liable for damages.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Kevin Regan holds 19 years of securities industry experience. Based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services since 2004 and 2013, respectively. He has no previous recommendations. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 33 state licenses. (Information current as of December 3, 2023.)
