Former Denver financial advisor Jason Kurtz (CRD# 4958219) has been sanctioned and barred in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he was most recently registered as a broker with US Bancorp Investments and that he has received numerous investor complaints.
A Letter of Acceptance, Waiver, and Consent (No. 2022076796001) issued in April 2024 describes FINRA’s recent disciplinary action against Mr. Kurtz. As it explains, he refused to produce information and documents that FINRA requested as part of an investigation into his conduct. The Letter notes that under FINRA Rule 8210, FINRA can require persons under its jurisdiction to provide information and documents related to matters under its investigation, and further that such persons may not refuse to provide requested documents and information. Violations of Rule 8210, FINA adds, are considered violations of Rule 2010, which stipulates that persons associated with FINRA must observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade in the course of their business. Finding that he violated these rules, FINRA barred Mr. Kurtz from associating with any member firm in all capacities.
Mr. Kurtz’s BrokerCheck report discloses his firing from US Bancorp Investments. Filed in 2022, it states that the firm terminated him “for depositing a check and withdrawing funds from a personal bank account without sufficient funds.”
His BrokerCheck report also discloses nine investor complaints. Eight of these complaints, filed in 2022 and 2023, allege that as a US Bancorp representative, he misrepresented material facts relating to a market-linked certificate of deposit investment. The complaints reached settlements amounting to more than $233,000.
A ninth investor complaint, filed in 2015, alleged that he recommended an unsuitable fixed annuity investment. In 2016 the complaint reached a settlement of $7,296.15.
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Jason Kurtz holds 16 years of securities industry experience. Most recently based in Denver, Colorado, he was registered as a broker with US Bancorp Investments from 2019 until 2022. His registration history includes Edward Jones, LPL Financial, BOSC Inc., USAA Financial Advisors, USAA Investment Management Company, MetLife Securities, WM Financial Services, Chase Investment Services, and Banc One Securities Corporation. His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65.
