Doug English: ACT Advisor Faces $400K Complaint

Asheville, North Carolina financial advisor Doug English (CRD# 2532448) allegedly recommended unsuitable investments, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the former LPL Financial broker is currently registered as an investment advisor with ACT Advisors.

Mr. English’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in March 2024, it alleges that as a representative of ACT Advisors, he recommended unsuitable equity listed securities. The pending complaint alleges damages of $400,000.

ACT Advisors’ website includes a profile of Mr. English that describes his background and specialties, including his focus on working with senior executives. “With his extensive knowledge and expertise, senior executives and institutions trust Doug to provide comprehensive benefit coordination and ongoing management of their resources,” it states. “Driven by a mission to enable clients to pursue their dreams, ACT Advisors excels in investment management, world-class financial planning, and compassionate engagement.”

Elsewhere, the firm describes its approach to investment management. “While asset allocation does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss, we believe that structure and asset allocation are the primary determinants of portfolio return,” it explains. “We seek to continually identify the risk factors that compensate investors and position our clients to participate in the rewards of capitalism.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the Securities and Exchange Commission, Doug English holds 29 years of securities industry experience. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, he has been registered as an investment advisor with ACT Advisors since 2014. His past registrations include LPL Financial (Asheville, North Carolina; 2006-2021), CUNA Brokerage Services (North Charleston, South Carolina; 1996-2006), and Nathan & Lewis Securities (New York, New York; 1994-1996). His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65.
