Grand Rapids, Michigan financial advisor Jody Vander Weide (CRD# 2571083) charged unauthorized fees, according to a pending regulatory action against him. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker with Osaic Wealth, having previously registered with Sigma Financial Corporation, and that he does business as Capstone Financial Services.
Mr. Vander Weide’s BrokerCheck report discloses the pending sanction against him by the Michigan Securities Division. Filed in March 2025, it alleges that he improperly acted as an unregistered investment adviser representative of an unregistered investment adviser. “[Mr.] Vander Weide made false or misleading statements to the Corporations, Securities, and Commercial Licensing Bureau when he lied about the reason his employment was terminated by a prior employer,” it alleges further. “[He] later acknowledged the wrongful conduct, but suggested that he was unaware of the wrongful nature of charging unauthorized fees to customers without his broker dealer firm’s permission, when he was fully aware that the conduct was wrongful and went to great lengths to conceal.” The action remains pending.
A second disclosure on his BrokerCheck report concerns his termination from Sigma Financial Corporation. Filed in March 2024, it states that the firm fired him in connection with allegations that he “violated firm policies by engaging in an undisclosed outside business activity as an unlicensed investment adviser representative.”
Mr. Vander Weide’s LinkedIn profile includes a section that describes his background and services as the founder and CEO of Capstone Financial Services. “Jody has come to be known as a leading financial executive in the Greater Grand Rapids Area in the following areas: Estate Planning, Investment Strategies, Retirement Planning, Mutual Funds, Asset Allocation, and more,” it states.
Capstone Financial’s profile, meanwhile, includes a section describing the firm’s services. “Capstone Financial is a financial services firm dedicated to providing their clients with the highest possible service and knowledge,” it explains. “Capstone strives to be a comprehensive financial services firm ready to assist their clients in areas ranging from 401ks to health insurance and from retirement planning to term life insurance.”
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Jody Vander Weide holds 29 years of securities industry experience.
