Brian Megibow: Why Did FourStar Advisor Resign from Ameriprise?

Fort Myers, Florida financial advisor Brian Megibow (CRD# 3083501) recently resigned from his former member firm while under review. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the former Ameriprise Financial Services broker is currently registered as an investment advisor with FourStar Wealth Advisors.

Mr. Megibow’s BrokerCheck report discloses his recent resignation from Ameriprise Financial Services. Filed in December 2024, the disclosure states that he “voluntarily resigned while the Firm was reviewing his trading strategy and client contact.”

His BrokerCheck report also discloses an investor complaint. Filed in 2016, it alleged that as a representative of SunTrust Investment Services, he recommended unsuitable annuity purchases. The complaint reached a settlement of $25,000. In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Megibow “absolutely” denied the allegations. “The recommendation was suitable and understood by the client,” he wrote. “Additionally, the suitability was approved by the firm’s investment review process.”

A third disclosure on his BrokerCheck report concerns his firing from AmSouth Investment Services. Filed in 2005, it states that the firm discharged him in connection with allegations that he firm policies and procedures, as well as industry standards of conduct, when he “placed trades to purchase option contracts in his personal account before making a stock purchase for a potential customer.” According to the disclosure, the firm believed “that the potential customer may have been aware of material non-public information to be released at a later date.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Brian Megibow holds 25 years of securities industry experience. Based in Fort Myers, Florida, he has been registered as an investment advisor with FourStar Wealth Advisors since December 2024. His past registrations include Ameriprise Financial Services, SunTrust Investment Services, AmSouth Investment Services, and Dean Witter Reynolds. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Futures Managed Funds Examination, or Series 31; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66. According to Securities and Exchange Commission records, he is licensed in Texas. (Information current as of February 9, 2025.)
