Carlson Law Uncovers Financial Advisor’s Embezzlement Scheme Against Former NFL Player

Miami Beach-based Carlson Law, P.A. recently uncovered a $2.6 million embezzlement scheme perpetrated by a financial advisor at a prominent Wall Street wealth management firm. The advisor misappropriated funds from a former NFL player, using the stolen money to finance a wild and extravagant spending spree.

The embezzlement occurred between 2019 and 2022, during which the financial advisor diverted funds from the player’s checking account to pay personal American Express credit card balances and send wire transfers to an associate. The scheme was particularly difficult to detect because bank statements only reflected payments to American Express without identifying the specific accounts being credited.

Carlson Law discovered the fraud during an audit that revealed the victim’s bank had paid $1.57 million more to American Express than the client had personally charged to his own cards. Alarmed by these discrepancies, Carlson Law obtained detailed records, which confirmed the embezzlement.

Further investigation uncovered dozens of wire transfers, totaling over $1 million, sent to a woman unknown to the client. A background check revealed that the financial advisor owns a business with this individual.

Records of the financial advisor’s American Express account showed the embezzled funds were used to fund a wild and extravagant lifestyle. This included over $300,000 spent at strip clubs, as well as expenses for domestic and international vacations, high-end hotels, designer clothes, boat rentals, and frequent visits to bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. Among the most egregious charges were over $23,000 spent at strip clubs in just two days and a single-day expense of more than $19,000 at a Miami restaurant and nightclub.

Carlson Law has filed a case to recover the misappropriated funds and is confident in its ability to succeed. While in this instance, the financial advisor worked for a prominent Wall Street firm, recovery can be more difficult in other situations.
