Corpus Christi, Texas financial advisor John Nelson (CRD# 1084135) was recently fired by his former member firm in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the former Wells Fargo Clearing Services representative is now registered as a broker with Independent Financial Group.
Mr. Nelson’s BrokerCheck report discloses his firing from Wells Fargo. Filed in October 2024, it states that the firm terminated his registration in connection with allegations that he “failed to reconfirm a client trade, took trading instructions from unauthorized third parties and used off-channel communication system to conduct business.”
A second disclosure on his BrokerCheck report concerns an investor dispute. Filed in 1998, it alleged that as a representative of Everen Securities, he made unauthorized and unsuitable purchases. The complaint alleged damages of $36,810 and was denied by the firm.
Investors should be aware that FINRA Rule 2010 stipulates FINRA-associated persons must “observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.” Various forms of unethical conduct may be considered violations of FINRA Rule 2010, provided the activities occur “in the conduct of [the member’s] business.” Brokers who violate this rule may be held liable for damages and/or subjected to disciplinary action.
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, John Nelson holds 41 years of securities industry experience. Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, he has been registered as a broker with Independent Financial Group since December 2024. His past registrations include Wells Fargo Clearing Services (Corpus Christi, Texas; 1998-2024), Principal financial Securities (Dallas, Texas; 1987-1998), and Rotan Mosle (1983-1987). His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63.
