JP Gobic: Did Morgan Stanley Advisor Misrepresent Investments?

Sarasota, Florida financial advisor JP Gobic (CRD# 4380699) allegedly misrepresented an alternative investment strategy, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley.

Mr. Gobic’s BrokerCheck report discloses three investor complaints. The most recent, filed in October 2024, alleges that as a representative of Morgan Stanley, he violated Regulation Best Interest and made misrepresentations in connection with an alternative investment strategy. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2008, concerned the sale of an auction rate security prior to the breakdown in illiquidity in the market for such products. The complaint reached a settlement of $100,000.

A third investor complaint, also filed in 2008, similarly concerned an auction rate securities investment prior to the breakdown in liquidity for auction rate securities. The complaint reached a settlement of $25,000.

Morgan Stanley’s website includes a profile of Mr. Gobic that describes him as a member of the Accelerando Group, a practice within the firm. “During his tenure with UBS his practice evolved from traditional financial advisory services to incorporate institutional investments such as Hedge Funds and Private Equity Funds in his clients’ portfolios,” it explains. “In 2010, JP progressed to Morgan Stanley in order to provide his clients with team-based wealth management and comprehensive financial services which include family wealth preservation and multigenerational legacy planning.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, JP Gobic holds 23 years of securities industry experience. Based in Sarasota, Florida, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley since 2010. He was previously registered with UBS Financial Services in Sarasota, Florida from 2001 until 2010. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Futures Managed Funds Examination, or Series 31; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66. He holds 40 state licenses. (Information current as of November 18, 2024.)
