Matt Gehring: Schwab Denies $424K Complaint Against Advisor

A recent, denied investor complaint against Lone Tree, Colorado financial advisor Matt Gehring (CRD# 4814336) alleged that his conduct resulted in losses. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Charles Schwab & Company and Schwab Wealth Advisory, respectively, having previously been registered with Ameriprise Financial Services.

Mr. Gehring’s BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. Filed in January 2025, it alleged that as a representative of Charles Schwab & Company, he “failed to provide any advice or recommendations regarding an over concentrated position,” resulting in losses. The complaint alleged damages of $424,000 and was denied by the firm. “The firm’s review did not reveal any sales practice violations from the interactions,” states a comment included with the disclosure, “and found no wrongdoing on the part of the representative.”

An earlier investor complaint, filed i 2016, alleged that he purchased mutual funds without consulting the customer. The complaint alleged damages of $69,000 and was closed with no action taken.

Mr. Gehring’s LinkedIn profile includes a paragraph describing his services and approach to working with his clients. “As a Schwab Senior Private Client Advisor, it’s my job to help you create a better financial life,” it explains. “ I will collaborate with you to help build a plan defined by your goals. I am committed to providing advice unique to your situation that is clear, relevant, and actionable, and I’ll work hard to find solutions and strategies that are right for you.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Matt Gehring holds 20 years of securities industry experience. Based in Lone Tree, Colorado, he has been registered as a broker with Charles Schwab & Company since 2014 and an investment advisor Schwab Wealth Advisory since 2022. His past registrations include Ameriprise Financial Services, Janus Distributors, Chase Investment Services, and Banc One Securities Corporation. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63.
