Carlson Law Investigating Tom Liu of Morgan Stanley

UPDATE: Carlson Law has filed an arbitration against Morgan Stanley relating to Tom Liu.

Carlson Law is investigating Irvine, California, Morgan Stanley broker Tom Liu (CRD# 6834194). We have been retained by a client of Liu who suffered substantial losses after Liu engaged in high-risk options trading, including selling naked put options on Tesla, Alphabet (Google), Palantir, Amazon, and Meta (Facebook). We plan on filing a claim against Morgan Stanley in the next few days. We are interested in speaking with other clients of Tom Liu.

Various securities industry standards protect investors from inappropriately risky investments and strategies. One example is the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s suitability standard. As outlined by FINRA Rule 2111, this requires brokers and firms to “have a reasonable basis to believe that a recommended transaction or investment strategy involving a security or securities is suitable for the customer, based on the information obtained through the reasonable diligence of the member or associated person to ascertain the customer’s investment profile.” Brokers who recommend investments and strategies without such a reasonable basis may be found liable for damages.

Morgan Stanley’s website describes Mr. Liu as a member of the The David Lung Group, which also includes financial advisors David Lung, Irena Hsiao, and Ozair Alefi. Elsewhere, a profile of Mr. Liu that describes his background and services as an investment professional. “As a Financial Advisor, Tom implements wealth management strategies for clients by concentrating on portfolio management to help meet clients’ goals to retire confidently,” it explains. “He is firmly committed to long-term relationships and strives to deliver exceptional client service. He listens carefully to clients’ goals, values, aspirations and concerns, and works to help them in achieving their financial objectives.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Tom Liu holds seven years of securities industry experience. Based in Irvine, California, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley since 2022. He was previously registered with Wells Fargo Clearing Services in Irvine from 2017 until 2022. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7TO; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63.
