William Bredthauer: Ameriprise Advisor Received $354K Complaint

Hopewell Junction, New York financial advisor William Bredthauer (CRD# 2266233) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his conduct resulted in damages exceeding $300,000. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services.

Mr. Bredthauer’s BrokerCheck report discloses multiple investor complaints. The most recent, filed in April 2024, alleged that as a representative of Ameriprise Financial Services, he made unauthorized transactions. The complaint alleged damages of $354,800 and was withdrawn.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2013, alleged that he made recommendations that resulted in losses while registered with Ameriprise. The complaint alleged damages of $11,000 and was denied by the firm.

A third investor complaint, filed in 2008, alleged that as an Ameriprise representative, he did not disclose the nature of a sweep option attached to the customer’s brokerage account. The complaint alleged damages of $45,446.76 and was denied.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, William Bredthauer holds 31 years of securities industry experience. Based in Hopewell Junction, New York, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services since 1992 and 2021, respectively. He was previously registered with IDS Life Insurance Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1992 until 2006. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He is licensed in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Vermont.
